Welcome to Shipston High School
A "good" school with "outstanding" features
Ofsted November 2009
Welcome to the Shipston High School Website. We hope you will be able to find all the information you need about the school. For any further information please do not hesitate to contact us.
Of course there is nothing like a visit to find out all the different reasons why this is such a highly successful and sought-after school and why, in our recent Ofsted inspection (November 2009), we were judged to be a "good" school with some "outstanding" features. We feel we are very privileged to be a small school in an attractive rural setting with a very student-centred, high achieving ethos. This is also an exceptionally busy school. There is always a buzz of activity both during the school day and out of it. As a consequence we have achieved outstanding success in a wide variety of areas including technology, sport, drama, creative arts and public speaking.
Without a doubt, our best advertisement is our students. In our Ofsted inspection our students were described as "exemplary" and their behaviour was officially judged as "outstanding". They are undoubtedly highly motivated, make excellent progress and show a real desire to learn. They also develop considerable resources of initiative and enterprise. Their contribution to the school and wider community was similarly judged as "outstanding". The inspectors were genuinely taken aback by the large numbers of students who volunteer to be involved in the "remarkably rich variety of very popular extra-curricular and enrichment activities on offer".This is also an innovative school. We have an imaginative curriculum that we have been creatively shaping to meet the needs of our students as they prepare for a fast-changing world where many of the jobs they will eventually do have yet to be invented! One measure of this success has been the wide range of national awards the school has won. With our increasing emphasis on teaching "learning skills" to our younger students and "independent learning skills" to our older students our examination results have been improving year-on-year. As importantly, our students have been equally successful in going on to a diverse spread of post-16 courses with eventual entry into a wide range of careers and professions.
There is a genuine passion and enthusiasm for learning in this school. As a result we put a very high premium on celebrating the success of everyone, staff as well as students. This really is a school where we are proud of any achievement however large or small. We are committed with a genuine passion to achieving our mission statement to be the "first-choice" school for our whole community and in being "outstanding" in everything we do. I hope you will have the opportunity to find out for yourself by visiting the school when I very much look forward to meeting you.
